The Longest Day of the Year

While some think that December 21st, the first day of winter, is the longest day of the year I have to say that is a misconception.

The longest day of the year is Christmas Day when you are Jewish. The movie times were lousy, my husband didn't feel well so he took a two hour nap.. and the day wore on and on and on. We couldn't go out for the annual Chinese Food dinner since he couldn't eat much. Ulcers will do that to you. What a long day. I couldn't even slip away to the supermarket because nothing is open.

We did get to light candles on this first night of Chanukah with our grandchildren. Some 400 miles away we were able to do it together over the phone. For that I am very grateful! It warmed my heart.

But I am still oh so bored on this longest day of the year. Good grief.. once a year is enough!

Pass The Cholesterol & Merry Christmas?

My husband has always had the idea that we should be able to work on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day so someone who celebrates the holiday can stay home with their family. We are Jewish and therefore do not celebrate Christmas.

We have never been able to pull this off, so this year it was decided that we would deliver treats to those who had to work.

With quite a few boxes containing a dozen donuts each we rode around town for a few hours and delivered the goodies. He had a plan that included the various locations of hospital emergency rooms and fire stations as well as a map so we wouldn't get lost.

It took about 3 hours and it was a pleasant drive. In all we made 10 stops. In retrospect I think it was a complete and total waste of time and effort. He tried so hard to do something nice and I don't think it really mattered. We were met with insipid smiles, weak thank-yous and in some cases, blank stares.

We are not made of money and while this really didn't set us back financially, it wasn't free either. It certainly wasn't costly except in my opinion, for the effort that was required. My husband tried hard to do a Mitzvah (good deed) and when we said we are doing this for people who have to work on the holiday and we cannot do their job.. and because we do not celebrate Christmas.. they still wished us a Merry Christmas. People just don't get it.

The Complexities of Blogging

I created a blog with Blogspot a few months ago. After the initial set up I was unable to edit, post or manage to do anything with this program. I kept finding places where I was asked if I wanted to use word verification but couldn't find the backdoor to set it up. I couldn't even find a way to make a post, much less delete the garbage that found its way to my comments sections.

Tonight I was able to delete the first blog I created. I have mastered something wonderful but have no idea why. Are there times we can enter areas of blogspot that are closed to us at other times? Something to ponder.

I am hoping this method of communication becomes easier. How anyone will find me is beyond my comprehension.. but then again you just never know.
